Newborn Photography FAQ

Should I do newborn pictures?
“They grow up so fast...”
As a parent, I am driven to honor the responsibility of documenting the milestones of my children's lives. Not only do I want to remember the moments for myself, but I also want to preserve memories so I can share them with my children later. Your child will feel important and loved when they discover their baby pictures.

How do I book a newborn photographer?
The first step is to reach out to me via EMAIL. We will discuss availability, PRICING, and your preferences. Let's see if we are a good fit for each other!
Once you decide to move forward with booking your due date, I will send a link to a contract and 25% retainer invoice. Everything is done online. It's easy!
In order to help me prepare for your session, I will have you fill out a NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY QUESTIONNAIRE.
I will also provide you with a handy NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY PREPARATION GUIDE.

FAQs about newborn photography
How old should my baby be?
Any age is acceptable! However, typical newborn poses require a younger baby. Usually, parents will schedule their session when the baby is between 7-21 days old.
Can I add family and siblings to the photoshoot?
Absolutely! Just choose the "MORE, INCLUDE THE FAMILY" option.
Do you have props and outfits?
I have everything you need. However, I encourage you to bring items that reflect your personal tastes too!
Can you come to my house?
Studio photography is performed at my location in Chicago.
LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY is done in your home.
How to prep for your newborn photos...
What to do and what to bring so that you have a positive experience and great images.

A few days before your session...
Arrange childcare
The family portion of a newborn session will be scheduled on a separate day. I find this to be the most relaxing and stress-free way to do it. Please arrange childcare for your other children. I do not recommend you bring them to the newborn session. The session takes a few hours and takes place in a warm environment. Your kids will not enjoy it! It’s a super sleepy environment!
Avoid gassy foods (if breastfeeding)
1-2 days beforehand avoid eating foods that will upset your baby.
-
Acidic foods – such as lemons, oranges, berries, pizza, spaghetti, chili, and tomato products.
-
Gassy vegetables – such as asparagus, onions, broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower.
-
Excessive caffeine
Pack your diaper bag...
-
Pacifier – While some babies don’t take one, I suggest bringing your preferred one anyways. This will help me keep your baby sleeping without being attached to a food source. I keep extra Soothie Brand pacifiers in the studio.
-
Bottles with pumped milk/formula – Even if your child does not typically use these, we must have access to various soothing techniques to make sure your session runs smoothly. Please prepare at least one bottle.
-
Preferred hairbrush – The brush is for a baby who has a lot of flakes on their head.
-
Preferred baby lotion – Babies start to shed skin in the first few weeks of birth. I’ll want to use your preferred baby lotion (if needed).
-
Props you want to be included in the shoot – Did your Grandma make a blanket that you want to be featured? Please note: avoid large stuffed animals.
-
FOOD for yourself! You will be at my house for a while. Bring a snack or two. Don't be surprised if I try to feed you!
