Best Photo Spots in Rhode Island: Favorite Locations
Here are my favorite photography locations in Rhode Island. These are in no particular order! This is definitely not an all-encompassing list! You can shoot anywhere!
Face it; your house is where your memories are made. I guarantee that your kids will look and feel the most comfortable in your own home setting. I can always find a way to pose the family in a yard or living room so that it looks picture perfect.
There is a lot of variety for a backdrop. This is a great spot for families with small children. There are a few gardens, a windmill, red house, duck pond, and nature trails. Sachuest Wildlife Preserve – There are some great spots with ocean views, stacked rocks, and nature trails. Be prepared to walk a bit.
Sachuest Beach (Second Beach)
The sunsets are beautiful.
The ocean views are good. There’s not a ton of room and you will be around a lot of hikers. Good for couples. Not good for kids.
Brenton Point State Park
Great ocean views and some New England rock walls. There is a lot of variety of backdrops.
Fort Adams State Park
If you can get a permit to shoot inside, there are some great nooks to photograph in.
For an urban look. You can also take advantage of the New England style doorways.
Great place for a family to frolic. There are a lot of wildflowers and tall grasses. Located in North Kingstown.
Navy War College
The view of the Pell Bridge is excellent here. You need to plan the shoot around the time of day for the best views. You cannot shoot during sunset because the sun is too bright. Morning sessions are highly recommended. The grounds are nice. Great for military families.
Claiborne Pell Bridge
I prefer to photograph the bridge from Jamestown. The light is better and the bridge is close. I also like to photograph the bridge from the old Naval hospital. However, the hours are restrictive and determined by the Naval Clinic’s hours of operation.
Blithewold Mansion in Bristol
The gardens here are very beautiful. You will need a permit or have a discussion with the grounds before having photographs here.
Castle Hill Lighthouse
The quintessential Newport wedding location.
Salve Regina Campus
There is a lot of variety for backdrop including ocean views.
Great New England views of rock and ocean. There’s some hiking involved.
Beavertail State Park
The rocks and water provide a cool New England backdrop. Great spot for everyone.
Colt State Park
There’s a lot of variety. Very large park.
Sandy Point Beach
Great rocky beach.
Large rocks. It’s a small location with nice views of an inlet. It can be busy with fishermen.
Great stretches of land with rows of grape vines. The looks are limited.
Green Animals Topiary Gardens
A great spot for kids. You will need permission to take photographs here.
Goat Island Marina
Beautiful views with sailboats.
More of an urban feel with marina views.
You will need permission from the mansions to take photographs on the grounds. They allow members to use their personal cameras but they frown on commercial use of their properties. If you want to shoot on the grounds of a Newport Mansion, please be sure that you have a membership and tread lightly!
